ED&F Man offer a range of products suitable for sheep. High sugar products are particularly important close to lambing for two key reasons.

Maximise Nutrient Intakes: Close to lambing the growing lamb takes up a large amount of space resulting in feed intake being reduced, feeding a high sugar liquid such as xxxx helps to over come this due to the high nutrient density and a low substitution effect of molasses based liquid feeds

Reduced incidence of twin lamb disease

Twin lamb disease or pregnancy toxaemia  is a metabolic problem effecting ewes in late pregnancy and is more likely if the ewe is carrying multiple lambs. It is caused when the energy needs of the pregnant ewe are not met and the ewe breaks down fat reserves to release energy and in particular glucose. This also results in the build up of toxic ketone compounds. 70% of lamb growth occurs in the final 2 months of pregnancy and this is when twin lamb disease is likely to occur. Treatment is better than cure and feeding a high sugar molasses based liquid feed through pregnancy can significantly reduce the incidence of twin lamb disease.

How to feed Liquid Feeds

ED&F Man’s range if liquid products can be fed in a number of ways to suit individual livestock systems:

  1. Top dressing feed/forage: An easy way to feed and encourage forage intake. For best results pour the liquid feed over the forage well before feeding so that it has time to soak through and thoroughly coat the whole bale
  2. Lick Feeders: ED&F Man offer a range of lick feeders ideally suited for sheep feeding
  1. TMR: Larger sheep units have adopted TMR feeding which is a cost effective eay to feed and the ideal way to incorporate high sugar molasses blends
